Page 8 --- The Pocahontas Times February 7, 1991 Poetry to and from the gulf A Mother's Prayer The following was written by Linda Cook in answer to The Tanker's Prayer from her son, S.P.C. David Price, who is curreruly in Saudi Arabia. 1 pray thee Heavenly Father, Please hear this Mother's prayer. And send an Angel to him, And let him know we care. Please keep him safe and healthy, Through day and through the night. Sometimes we can't understand, Why our sons should have to fight. 13 ut Lord I've known that freedom, And I've learned to love it well. .Iust help to bring him home to me, And let our men prevail. Tanker's Prayer I pray thee Heavenly Father Please hear this tanker's prayer, And send an Angel to me, For my tank and me to care. Be with us when we need you, And lend a helping hand. And carry safely by machine, Across the barren land. And keep my tank from running Dry when the enemy is close to me, And place my gunner's cross hairs, On the tanks that we don't see. Keep our wedge bolts on and tight, And the tension on our track, And be the eyes for our guards at night, When we are in our sack. Guide his tank, Lord help him, When the enemy is close. And let him know I'm proud of hint, When he is at his post. And now, My Heavenly Father, I've saved the most important request for last, Please let peace be universal, And bring my son home fast. Amen Please keep our amino coming, Help us ring the Freedom Bell. But above all Heavenly Father, See we do our duty well. And if we fall in combat, In the mist of morning gray, We ask you to accept us Dear Lord, these things we pray. Amen Accidents Rt. 219 south of Slaty Fork was the site of an accident involving a tractor/trailer truck and a pickup truck on January 25 at 11:25 p. m. The tractor was a 1990 Freightliner driven by Lewis N. Abbott, Jr., of Troutville, Virginia, and owned by Kenan Transport Company, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Driving the 1983 Dodge pickup was Kenneth Cutlip, of Marlinton. Mr. Abbott, coming south, was in the process of passing another traclor/trailer truck and his trailer was not back into the southbound lane when Mr. Cutlip came in the Deeds other direction. Mr. Cutlip first swerved to the right but had to come back into the road because of a rock outcrop and his vehicle hit the trailer. The tractor/trailer rig then jackknifed. Mr. Abbott and Mr. Cutlip were transported to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital by Marlinton ambulance. Mr. Abbott was kept in the hospital overnight for observation while Mr. Cutlip was treated and released. The accident was investigated by State Police. The Dodge was a total loss and the truck had moderate damage. ... Lois E.
