forest pest which causes extensive
hemlock decline and tree mortality in
hemlock foreJts throughout the East.
The HWA feeds on plant flmds and
cJm kill I mature hek ee in five
to seven years The project will iwolve
a winter 2003 and spring 2004 release
of labemory reared L. nigrmu on up
to 20 hemlock trees infested with HWA
on the Marlinton Ranger District.
Monitoring and evaluation of control
effectiveness will continue for 3 years
post release for the purpose of
documenting the establishment and
dispersal of the beetle and and
evaluating its effectiveness in reducing
HWA population density and protecting
hemlock health. Comments must be
received within 14 days of the
publication of this notice. Comments
